  • SERENE ANGELIC PHOTO EFFECT IN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

First off, when choosing a photograph to do this tutorial with, it's best if you use one with light colors (perferably with a lot of white like this one)

Open your file and put a colored background underneath your original picture.

I recommend light pastel colors, but not white, or else this technique won't work. Here I chose a nice pale yellow.

Second, on your photograph layer, set it at Darken.

This will make the light parts of your picture transperant and the background color will show through.

Next, you're going to duplicate your darkened layer. Go to your layer window and. . .

Right Click on Layer > Duplicate Layer

You'll notice that nothing will change, because your new layer should be set at "Darken" as well.

Then, on that new layer, you'll need to colorize it
    ctrl + U > Colorize

I recommend making it the same shade as your background.

    This is your result!

A nice tame picture with a serene quality. Perfect for making into backgrounds because the colors won't jump out at you.

But also great for headers ...
