  • BURNT MEMORY PHOTO EFFECT IN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

First, you're starting off with an image of burnt paper. If you don't have one, you can always make it yourself and scan it.

It's better having the actual object instead of a digital imitation.

Then take the image you want "burnt onto" the paper. I chose one of the members of band Kagerou.

You're then going to make the picture black and white
    ctrl + U > Saturation -100

Make the image transperant around 50 - 60% depending on how dark you want the picture to stay. Also feel free to play with the Levels.
    Image > Adjustment > Levels

Next you're going to erase the edges of your image so that it blends into the paper.

I recommend using a textured / faux finish eraser when doing this. That way it's more seamless and flows better.

    Avoid the airbrush.

Once you're satisfied with your edges, you're going to set your layer option at either Color Dodge or Linear Dodge. Below you can see the difference between the two.

Color Dodge - gives the image a more vivid and bright effect. Great for making it stand out.

Linear Dode - the color blends in with the paper more. This is useful if you're planning on adding anything on top of it.

    And that's it! Enjoy.
